Breanna Stewart closing in on third WNBA championship

All-Star forward Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty are on the verge of the franchise’s first-ever WNBA championship, which they’ll look to clinch in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals on Friday night against the Minnesota Lynx.
Stewart poured in 30 points in Game 3 on Wednesday to help New York rally from a 15-point deficit for a thrilling 80-77 victory to go up 2-1 in the best-of-five series.
In her second season with the Liberty, the two-time league MVP averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as New York finished with the league’s best overall record (32-8) and earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Stewart has plenty of championship experience, dating back to her college days at Connecticut.
Under coach Geno Auriemma, Stewart and the Huskies won four NCAA titles. She was named the tourney’s Most Valuable Player all four times.
After being selected first overall in the 2016 WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm, Stewart helped turn the last-place team into a title contender.
Stewart won two WNBA championships with the Storm – in 2018 over the Washington Mystics and in 2020 over the Las Vegas Aces.
